About The Roads Scholar Engagement Tour
My main project as a Promise intern has been to plan the 2016 Roads Scholar Engagement Tour. The Roads Scholar Tour welcomes newer faculty and employees who are new to engagement, to gain a sense for community engagement and to form relationships with colleagues who do similar work. The Roads Scholar Tour is a conference "on wheels" because every moment on the bus is full of interactions and presentations, this is what makes The Roads Scholar Engagement Tour different from any other experience.
This Year's Roads Scholar Tour:The 2016 Roads Scholar Engagement Tour will be held on September 12-13 and will spotlight Central Oregon with a night stay at Kah-Nee-Tah Resort! The Roads Scholar Tour will visit the Central Oregon Agriculture Research Center, The Museum at Warm Springs, and witness the ribbon cutting for the new OSU Cascades Campus! This year's tour will be packed with fun and engaging activities such as a Cultural Welcome held by the Confederated Tribe, cultural food tasting and salmon bake!
My involvement:Planning the 2016 Roads Scholar Engagement Tour has been a great learning experience! My involvement has been to organize the tour with the help of my mentors Jeff Sherman, and Hollie Conger. I had to opportunity to learn about marketing and logistics along with increasing communication skills. Though this process I learned about the different extension offices in Central Oregon and how much it takes to plan an event. My major focus was to organize the cultural aspect of the tour and to construct a detailed schedule of how the tour would look, including specific times, and name of presenters.
